Privacy Policy for AI Recipes Wizard

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

• Text Input: When you enter ingredients via the keyboard, the input is sent to a third-party AI service (OpenAI) for recipe generation.
• Voice Input (ingredients): If you choose to speak instead of typing, your voice is processed using Google Cloud Speech-to-Text to transcribe your request. The resulting text is then sent to OpenAI for recipe generation.
• Voice Commands (hands-free cooking): The "next", "back" and "repeat" commands used while cooking are recognised entirely on your device by Apple's on-device speech recognition. This audio is never sent to us or to any third party, and is not recorded.
• Recipe Photos: To illustrate a recipe, the generated recipe's title and description are sent to OpenAI's image generation service, which returns a photo of the dish to your device. No photo from your own camera or photo library is involved.
• Photos You Take of Your Own Food: If you use the ingredient scanner to photograph your fridge or cupboard, that photo is sent to OpenAI to identify the food in it, and the list of items comes back to your device for you to review before anything is saved. Before the photo leaves your device it is resized and re-encoded, which removes the metadata the original carried — including any location the camera recorded. We do not store the photo, and it is not kept after the scan.
• Pantry, Shopping List and Cooking History: Items you add to your pantry and shopping list, and recipes you mark as cooked, are stored on your device and synced between your own devices through your personal iCloud account using Apple CloudKit. This data lives in your private iCloud database. We cannot read it, and it is not sent to our servers or to any third party.
• Subscription Events: If you subscribe, Apple notifies our server when your subscription changes state — a trial starting, a subscription beginning, renewing, cancelling, or being refunded. We record the event type, the time it happened, Apple's product identifier, and Apple's transaction identifier for the purchase. We do not receive or store your name, email address, Apple ID, or payment details, which Apple never shares with us.
• Device and Usage Data: Anonymous technical data (such as app crashes and usage analytics) may be collected to improve the app experience.

2. How We Use Your Information

Your input is used only to:

• Generate recipes based on your request.
• Transcribe voice to text when using voice input.
• Generate an illustrative photo of the finished dish.
• Identify the food in a photo you take, so you can add it to your kitchen without typing it all in.
• Keep your pantry, shopping list and cooking history in step across your own devices.
• Keep an accurate record of subscription status, so the app unlocks what you have paid for and we can resolve billing questions.

We do not store or share your ingredient and recipe input beyond what is required to process your request, and we do not sell any of your data or use it for advertising.

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• OpenAI: For natural language processing, recipe generation, generating the illustrative dish photo, and identifying the food in photos you take with the ingredient scanner.
• Google Cloud Speech-to-Text: For transcribing spoken ingredients only. It is not used for the hands-free cooking commands, which stay on your device.
• Apple: iCloud and CloudKit sync your pantry, shopping list and cooking history between your own devices, and the App Store processes subscriptions and tells our server when a subscription changes state.
• Neon: Hosts the database in which subscription events are recorded.
• Vercel: Hosts this website and the service that passes your requests to the providers above.

These services process your input solely to provide their respective functionalities and are subject to their own privacy policies.

4. Data Retention

Different kinds of data are kept for different lengths of time:

• Your ingredients, recipes and voice input: not stored on our servers at all. Processing happens in real time and nothing is saved beyond the session.
• Generated dish photos: returned straight to your device and kept with the recipe there. We do not retain a copy.
• Photos you scan for ingredients: held only for the moment it takes to analyse them. Nothing is written to disk on our servers and no copy is kept once the list of items has been returned to your device.
• Hands-free voice commands: recognised on your device and discarded immediately. Nothing is transmitted or recorded.
• Pantry, shopping list and cooking history: kept on your device and in your own private iCloud database until you delete them, or delete the app and its iCloud data. Because this is your iCloud account rather than our server, we cannot read, retain or delete it on your behalf.
• Subscription events: retained on our server for as long as your subscription is active and afterwards as needed for billing, refunds and accounting. These records identify a purchase, not a person.

5. Children's Privacy

Our app is designed to be safe for users of all ages. We do not ask for a name, an email address or an account, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. The subscription records described above contain Apple's identifiers for a purchase and no personal details. If this changes in the future, we will update our privacy practices accordingly.
